The holistic photographer
|
Holism (from the Greek holos, meaning whole) is the idea that the properties of a system (e.g. a person) cannot be explained by the sum of its components alone. Rather, it is the interconnection and interaction of all factors that make a whole. I am a holistic photographer. My philosophy is to consider the body, intellect and spirit of a person as interconnected and to express the whole person in my portrait photography. Rather than merely photographing a body, I try to interpret the essence of a person. I encourage my subjects (whom I do not like to call subjects) to open their soul to the camera. I want to discover and capture the real person inside the body. I like to photograph my subjects in a space of special relevancy (e.g. their home or other sacred space, indoors or out).
