Skin Care for Men - The Regimen

The daily skin care routine for men explained.

Cleansing: Facial Wash

A facial wash cleans your skin from pollution, dirt and grime and removes excess oils.

Use a soap-free gel twice a day: in the morning, before shaving, and in the evening, before retiring to bed. If it burns in your eyes, it contains soap.

Massage gently into your wet face, paying particular attention to the sides of your nose and any dimples. Don’t forget that the skin on your neck is just as needy as your face.

Rinse off with running water.

Cleansing: Facial Scrub

A facial scrub is similar to a facial wash but it contains "gritty bits", just like the polish for your motor. It is used to remove dead skin cells and leaves your skin smooth.

Use once a week if you have very dry skin, two to three times a week with normal skin and at least three times a week with oily skin.

Massage into damp skin, rinse off with running water. Don’t get it into your eyes, and don’t scrub the areas around your eyes.

Aftershave Balm

Not only sensitive skin becomes irritated from shaving. Do not splash alcohol (a.k.a. aftershave) on your skin after shaving. It only makes matters worse. If you like the pain, there are better ways.

Instead, use an aftershave balm, which is a cream or, better, gel. It calms your skin after shaving and reduces irritations from shaving.

For scent, use eau de toilette instead of aftershave.

Facial Toner

A facial toner is a clear lotion which removes excess oil, reduces shine and tones the skin.

Use a facial toner twice a day. In the morning, use it after shaving on the areas of your face and neck that you have not treated with aftershave balm – in the evening, after cleansing.

Soak a cotton pad and wipe over your face and neck.

Facial Moisturiser

A moisturiser protects and conditions the skin by replacing lost oils. It is an absolutely indispensable product to keep your skin supple, smooth and young looking.

Use it on your face and neck twice a day after toning.

Hands

Hand cream is for your hands what moisturiser is for your face and neck. It keeps your skin supple, smooth and young looking.

Use a hand cream every time after washing your hands. Select a product which is quickly and easily absorbed by your skin and does not feel sticky. I find that products containing glycerine do the best job.

It goes without saying that a regular manicure should be part of every man's grooming routine.
